Apple is preparing for the launch of a highly expected new product at WWDC 2023, and surprisingly, it won’t be an iPhone, iPad, AirPods, or any other familiar device from the company’s existing lineup. According to well-known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the long-awaited mixed-reality headset will finally make its debut at the annual event. This move is considered one of the riskiest undertakings for Apple CEO Tim Cook.
Historically, most Apple products have reflected the influence of Steve Jobs, showcasing his visionary inputs. Even the Apple Watch, which was released four years after his passing, had his involvement in its development. On the other hand, Tim Cook is yet to unveil his own bold idea, which is believed to be the Apple AR/VR headset.
The Apple headset has been in development for quite some time, and experts suggest that it won’t be a product for the mass market. Additionally, it is said to heavily emphasize the metaverse, despite the concept being declared dead. This makes the Apple headset Tim Cook’s riskiest move yet.
Reports indicate that the Apple headset will feature multiple 4K micro-OLED displays, dual M2-based processors, a headset casing, and 12 optical cameras for hand movement tracking. As for pricing, it is expected to be around $3,000 (Rs 2,46,594). Apple has already announced that its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) will be held in an online format from June 5 to June 9, where the company will focus on building next-generation operating systems for its product lineup.
