Rumors suggest that Motorola will release two clamshell foldable smartphones this year, distinguishing itself from Samsung’s approach of introducing one clamshell model (Flip) and one book-like foldable (Fold) annually. The upcoming devices are expected to be named Razr 40 and Razr 40 Ultra, although Motorola did not explicitly mention the names in its official announcement. However, the teaser video showcased silhouettes of two clamshell foldable, essentially confirming the speculations.
While the official announcement did not provide specific details about the forthcoming Motorola foldable, there have been numerous rumors circulating in recent months. The Razr 40 Ultra is anticipated to be the flagship offering, while the standard Razr 40 will likely serve as an entry-level option. It’s worth noting that earlier reports referred to these devices using different names, such as Motorola Razr+ 2023 or Razr 40 Pro for the former, and Razr 40 Lite for the latter.
The most notable distinction between the two models lies in their cover displays. The Razr 40 Ultra boasts a large exterior display, reportedly measuring 3.5 inches diagonally with a resolution of 1056 x 1066 pixels. This display occupies almost the entire top half of the phone, allowing users to access most apps without unfolding the device. On the other hand, the vanilla Razr 40 will feature a smaller external screen primarily intended for quick notifications and messages. Additionally, the two phones may differ in terms of internal specifications.
